News From The Pine Tree

This Week at the Pine Tree

Monday, October 12

Hello from the Pine Tree, Sorry I did not post a newsletter last Monday.  I am not sure why I didn't other than my day off sometimes gets away from me.  LOL   Truthfully, I am having a difficult time remembering day, month and date, but I will always remember the year!

JANET will be at the shop tomorrow, Tuesday, October 13 at 11 to bring quilts!  I know she has been in contact with some of you.  Next date for Janet will be Tuesday, November 10 at 11.

JEFF will me at the shop on Friday, October 16 to pick up sewing machines that need cleaned and/or repaired.  Please bring them to the shop by Thursday, because I am never sure what time he will be at the shop on Friday.  Jeff's next pick-up date will be November 6.

Did you get your flu shot yet?  I was able to get mine last Tuesday.

Did you get your ballot in the mail?  I got mine last week and plan to take it in this week.

A tough couple of days with Tess.  Early Wednesday morning she awakened me to go out.  I took her out, came in and I got a drink of water and she wanted to go right back out.  I knew right away that Tess had a bladder infection (she is my 3rd Westie).  So I spent the rest of the early morning hours taking her out and trying to get her to settle down until I could call her vet.  We were given an appointment for that morning.  She had a couple of shots and an xray to see if she had bladder stones.  But Tess is a trooper and she went to the shop.  It took her a couple of days to feel like herself, but she has let the squirrels in our yard know that she is back on "bark alert".  We love the doctors and staff at Waynesburg Animal Hospital for the care they give to Tess.

We had a slow week for getting new fabric in the shop, but I did get one new notion.  It is called " The Hole Thing" and it is made by Creative Grid.  It is made of heavy flexible template plastic and allows you to trace perfect circles from sizes ranging from 1/4 " to 3" and every quarter inch in between..  No longer will you have to decide if you want a circle the size of a nickel, quarter, a lid or a glass!  Let's face it we have all used these to draw a circle.  In the larger circles there are hash marks printed around the circles to help in placement.  The price of "The Hole Thing" is $7.99

I am getting a new  pattern ready for you this week.  A friend brought in a pattern for an octagon table topper that she had received years ago.  She has made several of these and since the center octagon is about 14" this little table topper works great for a pretty focus fabric in the center.  I am working on changing some of the directions and I have to put everything together, but I should have that finished by the end of this week.
Free pattern with the purchase of a kit or fabric of your choice to make the table topper.

The Creative Grid Mask Template SOLD OUT again.  That was my third order to sell out and I will be ordering more in the next few weeks.

Here is your bit of useless but interesting information for the week!  The PINCUSHION TOMATO--We have all had one in our life, haven't we?  This is the pincushion tomato with a strawberry attached.  It was most likely introduced during the Victorian Era.  According to folklore, placing a tomato on the mantel of a new house guaranteed prosperity and repelled evil spirits.  If tomatoes were out of season, families improvised by using a round ball of red fabric filled with sand or sawdust.  The good-luck symbol also served a practical purpose--a place to store pins.  Typically, the tomato is filled with wool roving to prevent rust, and the strawberry is filled with an abrasive to clean and sharpen the pins.

Hope you have a "Sew-Sew" Week
