Week of September 1-5

I am sorry I have not been keeping up with my emails.  I have decided to do something different.  We are getting in so much fabric, patterns and notions I can hardly keep up with everything.  It seems like something new arrives every day.  So each day I am going to do a little shop "journal writing" and then send it to you each Monday morning.  Let us see how that works is keeping you up to date.

Tuesday, September 1  I worked on making masks for back to school.  Did you know that Creative Grid has put out a new mask template.  I really like it.  I have already sold out of the first group I ordered and now the templates are on back order again.  I hope to have these soon.  I do have elastic now.  The quarter inch black is $.45 per yard and the white is $.55 per yard.  I also have some packaged 5 yard cuts in black, white, navy, red, green, purple, and charcoal gray for $3.60 per package

Wednesday, September 2   I received three (3) bolts of a beautiful flannel from Northcott called Frosted Woodland.  There is an overall deer print, a pine needle print and a snowy tree print.  The color is what I would call a soft teal.  The deer print could be bordered by the other two fabrics to create a fast and easy throw for the winter.  The fabric is $11.99 per yard.  It is available on-line too.

Thursday, September 3  This must be Creative Grid Week.  I received the 45 degree Kaleidoscope and Dresden Plate Ruler. I finally attempted a Kaleidoscope/ Stack and Wack/ One Block Wonder quilt and I loved making it.  I don't know why I was so intimidated by this quilt.  I made it using "Leah" from In the Beginning Fabrics that looks like watercolor hydrangeas.  Stop by the shop and see the quilt.  To get an idea what the Creative Grid ruler does, go to their website www.creativegridusa.com and watch the video.

Friday, September 4  I have been working on a fall quilt from the line of fabric by Henry Glass called Autumn is Coming.  The quilt begins with a beautiful panel and then borders are added.  What I like about this quilt is that if you want to use it as a wall hanging you can stop at border 2 or border 3.  I have been posting my progress on Facebook--Pine Tree Quilt Shop.  The pattern is free and available on the Henry Glass website.

Saturday, September 5  Such a great day at the shop visiting with friends and meeting some new friends from Ohio.  Tessie especially like meeting to two girls from Ohio!

I think on Saturday's I shall just give you some information about things I have read or learned about quilting, embroidery and such.  You can use this for your own information or you may say, Linda, I knew that already.  Today's information is about Fat Quarters.  You know those 18" x 22" pieces of fabric that we just love to stock up.  Many of you are using them for masks too.  Well, do you have a stack and you are not sure what you are going to do with them?   Here are just a few ways you can cut them to use them in your next quilt.

From a fat quarter you can get 6- 61/2" squares or 9 - 6" squares or 12 - 5 1/2" squares or 12 - 5" squares or 16 - 4 1/2" squares or 20 - 4" squares or 30 - 3 1/2" squares or 42 - 3" squares or 56 -  2 1/2 " squares or 99 -  2" squares!  From a fat quarter you can also get 1 - 2 1/2" x 22" strip, 2 - 10" squares and 4 - 5" squares.  Wow those fat quarters are more versatile that we thought.

REMEMBER--TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 8 JANET LANGLEY WILL BE AT THE SHOP AT 11 TO PICK UP AND DELIVER QUILTS.  YOU MUST GET YOUR QUILTS, ETC THAT YOU WANT FOR CHRISTMAS  TO HER ASAP.

I hope you are having a great Labor Day.  And I hope to see you soon at the Pine Tree.

Linda
